The viral social media trend to write-in a fast food chain on city mayoral election ballots as a joke caused a surprising turnout in two neighboring towns. South Lake City got an overwhelming vote for Chick-For-Dayz, and North Lake City votes went to Burger Queen. With no laws currently in motion to override the results, the two fast food corporations took this rare opportunity to create their own personal empires, placing their mascots to occupy the role of mayor.
For the first two years, the mascot mayors were successful and the towns became booming tourist attractions. Then there was a break in at a local Chick-For-Dayz, and they accused Burger Queen of attempting to steal their secret Bok-Bok Sauce recipe. In retaliation, Burger Queen accused Chick-For-Dayz of trying to rob their Royal Buns Reserve. City rivalry ensued. Small pranks turned into destroying property. Then it turned to spies and sabotage. Then food fights. Now, food war. Food in places it shouldn’t be, being used in ways it shouldn’t be used.
With both towns having become a war zone, tourism is down 99%, local roads are closed, and only loyal employees remain with their families to protect their city. Chefs supply ammo, janitors craft weapons, and the bravest of employees take the front lines as Food Fighters. The only clear end to this war is at the end of the four year term.. or an actual victory, if either side can even win before going bankrupt.
